Cold Case of Brutality
In my last post I discussed how easily lawsuits could be levied against reputable school owners, given certain conditions. Occasionally, however, legal action is warranted. Not everyone can or should run a martial arts club, but apparently that doesn't stop them.
The following is a clip that first appeared on the internet about a year ago, but it's actually footage taken from a Virginia karate school in 1984. The story is that a local man had become somewhat of a minor nuisance at the shopping mall where this school was located and eventually showed up at this dojo claiming that he had been sent by Jesus, or words to that effect. This doesn't end well, as the man - who is obviously deranged - is viciously beaten by one of the school's black belts.
Incredibly, to date neither the student who administered the beating nor the instructor (Billy Joe Blythe) have ever been charged. The identity of the victim and whatever became of him remains unknown. The tape, which supposedly was originally uploaded by Blythe himself, appears to be authentic. Very sad.

OUCH!
This is pretty shocking stuff. The guy obviously lost his temper because his martial skills weren't worrying the other guy too much. Kicking somebody when they are on the ground is just wrong - there is no need for it.
Holy sh*t. Outrageous aggressive and indefensible behaviour from someone who doesn't deserve for anyone to call him "Sensei" (not least cuz he's a fat guy in a black gi with lilac trim! ;) and a student that doesn't deserve to be taught anything.
Hi, John Sensei:
Glad you posted this guys name. Let the world know about this ...
I viewed this video a year ago and still find it most disgusting that someone, or group of someones, could end up so far down the "wrong" path.
I do hope and pray that the guy lived and is well today.
The lack of self esteem of this dojo is incredible.
Only one question comes to mind. This is the third time I've seen this video.
Why?? But why go that far??
Mathieu: Ego, very very large ego's...a very small amount of self esteem, if any at all.
That is wrong! What kind of instructor allows that to happen. How much fear had he put into his students that no one stepped in to stop it. The idiot was even proud of what he had done. It was like a real life Kobra Kai.
The Black Belt was the aggressor every step of the way. Cheap shot after cheap shot. There is a special place in hell reserved for the leadership of that school.
Hi, Budd: Now you know how Charles Manson was able to get women to kill.
Wow I was completely unaware of this video. The severity of it is sobering.
That was awful!
What happen to self-discipline and well-being in this video clip.
This two guys are worse than street thugs.
I want to comment on this but I'm at a bit of a loss for words. I find their actions extremely reprehensible. What saddens me more is that I'm sure many of his students have gone on to create more dojos like this and they probably exist, even today. :(
This is a call to everyone taking martial arts and for me also because I'm taking self defense class, to use whatever martial arts skill learned for the better and not to just beat someone as seen in this video. This is not how martial arts talent should be used.
Oh well that is so bad. How can a student learn something if they are being treated that way? What kind of master is that? They should be motivating the students not to make them quite what they wanted to do. We should watch out for this kind of treatments.
